How do you become a HealthyU? 

 

To enjoy a long, active, full and vibrantly healthy life requires a pro-health approach to life.  There are 7 key elements i.e. steps to this pro-health approach: 

 

1.      Information – what does your body need to perform well?  Learn more about healthy foods and nutrition so that you are fuelling your body with the right ingredients for optimum and trouble-free performance. 

 

2.      Preventative measures – fire prevention rather than fire fighting.  Most illnesses and diseases develop take time to develop.  Nip their development in the bud.  Understand your body and monitor any changes so that  you can identify  and prevent a worsening of the condition, or get it treated at an earlier and more manageable stage. Have regular health checks and explore ways of maintaining good health. 

 

3.      Physical fitness – keep yourself physically fit and toned through regular physical activity or exercise regime.  The human body was made for movement – keep it moving.  Ensure you have some regular physical activity even if it is as simple as regular walks or something more specific such as gym workouts. 

 

4.      Mental fitness  how active is your brain? How do you see life?  Is it an uphill struggle or a fabulous opportunity to learn and do new things?  Having a positive outlook on life can help to maintain good health and manage any health problems if they arise.  Learn about how your thoughts color your life and outlook.  Learn how to manage your thoughts so that they empower and support you in what you want to do.  Keep learning to keep your brain active and well tuned. 

 

5.      Spiritual health – this could be religious or philosophical or just your own take on the meaning of life.  How do you see your role in the grand scheme of things?  Where do you fit in?  What connects you to others in this world?  Having a basic spiritual or philosophical structure on which you base your life can give great depth and meaning to your life and help you make choices in an often confusing world. 

 

6.      Motivation – keep yourself motivated to maintain excellent health.  Keep your mind focused on what you can achieve with good health.  Create and work towards some personal life goals and purposes.  Life can pass in a flash if not given a structure and purpose.  Setting yourself some meaningful goals can give direction and meaning to your life and provide a regular sense of achievement and accomplishment. 

 

7.      Pro-health habits – create change in your life through regular small changes rather than an all out complete upheaval which can result in a few hectic and feverish weeks of following healthy habits and behaviours only to lapse into complete reversal because it feels so unnatural and such a struggle.  Baby steps.  Small and regular changes incorporated into your life, one at a time will result in long lasting changes and transformations.
