Intensity of Aerobic Exercises & Workouts

Filed Under (Aerobics for Health & Weight Loss) by admin on 03-01-2008

Aerobic workouts and exercises are excellent for having fun and becoming fit and toned in the process.  Aerobics is great for staying healthy and losing weight too.  The intensity of aerobic workouts play an important part in getting the best results.  Experienced aerobic trainers talk about the 3 vital rules:

Safety is important.  You may be really enthusiastic in the beginning but you must ensure you don’t rush into overdoing your workouts and overtraining.  You may fear that by under-training you wont see any results.  You need to hit the right balance between overtraining and under-training.  Overtraining can lead to injuries and leave you feeling unwell and nauseous.  The right intensity of aerobic exercises may give you sore muscles as they begin toning but should not strain your joints.  You should still feel in control of your body and your breathing.  The moment you feel pain or fatigued you may need to have a break, tone down the intensity of your workout and/or work with lower weights.  This leads to the next rule.

How do you find the right intensity for your aerobics routines?  There is no hard and fast rule.  You need to work your muscles and heart enough so that they are shaken out of their slumber and begin to begin the toning and conditioning process.  However, the exercises should not be so intense that you are struggling within a short time.  This can lead to injury.  You should feel healthily stretched at the end of the workout but not exhausted or fatigued.  Work with one intensity for a while and when your body has become conditioned to that you are then ready to move on to the next level of intensity.

Third rule – adjust your intensity levels i.e. increase weights, repetitions and complexity of the exercises gradually over time.  The best toning and conditioning results are achieved by starting slowly and increasing gradually as your strength and endurance increases.

Remember you started your aerobic exercises to improve your health and wellbeing by conditioning and toning the body and losing weight in the process.  Your goal is achieve and maintain good health.  By overtraining and overdoing your routines you risk injury and bad health.  So remember to pace yourself, start with a comfortable level of intensity and increase it gradually over time.

Wishing you great health always!
